It was a dark and stormy night, and I figured I'd better get on and attempt that illustration for my friends Steve and Dany; Dany is the publisher of a great bi-weekly local paper we have here in Cumberland, and Steve is organizing a writing contest in it based on the famous dark and stormy night contest.

Nice ink drawing! It certainly has the right atmosphere.

Hey Joyce; actually did it in ballpoint and then scanned, desaturated, and boosted contrast. The original has its own homely appeal but not good for print, I think.

I love this, and I love dark and stormy days and nights.

Also, nice kinetic sense of wind with the smoke coming out of the chimneys being whipped sideways. Now that makes for a great storm.

A very Dickensian sensiblity in this one.
Well done Clive!

Yes, Dickensian is the word. This could be a perfect illustration for one of Dickens' books. I love it. My imagination is made up of scenes like this and I only wish I could render them the way you do.

Love the work Clive - good drawing is always a treat to see - and not just good drawing but some substance, complexity and snap. Dark, foreboding scenes always tops in my book.
